Mount Etna - What to see in Taormina - Sicily tourism

Etna is an active volcano and you shouldn’t miss the chance to see the lava flows and ash clouds during its spectacular eruptions.

Coming through the villages at the base of the volcano, by bus and cable car, you can reach the base of the summit craters in an area called the Philospher’s Tower (Torre del Filosofo). From here you see the ancient caldera known as the Valley of the Ox (Valle del Bove) and an amazing view over the Ionian coast and whole Mediterranean.

A night-time trip during an eruption can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and for some brave souls, hiring a 4x4 vehicle would be one way to reach the best spots for watching the glowing hot streams on this mighty mountain.
